Trick Question

This is not a "qian bian wen da ti".

See the equation below:
101 - 102 = 1
How can you move only one number such that the equation becomes correct?

1) No changing of the signs - and =
2) No blanks on either side
3) MOVE one number. Not exchange with another. (that would be two numbers shifted)

Only 1 person managed to solve it. YL. She is a freaking genius I tell you.

On the other hand, my sis and my student took so long to get it even after all the clues were given. In fact, even after the answer was revealed. HAHAHAHA!

It took me 2-3 clues before I got it. Damn.

Hmm, 102-101=1?
Is it by shifting the value or the digit? Haha :D

oops. shift DIGIT. :O)
means for example if it were 256, u can only move 2 or 5 or 6.

based on wat leonard said, is it that we shift the 2 up to a higher position such that 101- 10 to the power of 2 (giving 100) = 1??

Nice challenge here. I think the answer is what Leonard said.
